A Little Bit of Framing

So March was the month of flooring and framing for Roh.
Roh jack-hammered up the original kitchen floor, and then I (with a little help from Dan and Roh) lugged it from the house to the skip bin, over a couple of day. Then it was up to Roh to put in some new stumps and bearers. Poor Roh - the weekend he had to get it done, it poured with rain, so he was out there getting drenched and muddy as he dug and poured concrete stumps in. No photos of this stage unfortunately but I think that's a good reason why :-P
Next the floor of the living area was pulled up...

And new bearers were laid..

The new floor went down and the framing began...

The framing went up quite quickly...

Then it was time to put on the roof trusses and piece together the puzzle that is 'roof trusses'. Roh had quite a few helpers with this which was great, as they were so big and awkward to get up.

Roof trusses all on, and now we were ready for a roof - yay!

So, we had to set down some definite colours for the roof and fascia. We've gone with Colourbond "Dune" for the fascia and the weatherboards....

And Colourbond "Ironstone" for the roof...

We've also finally picked out a colour for the window & door frames which is a much paler version of 'Dune' called "Foam Frost". I can't wait to see the windows go in, and the weatherboards go up. Windows are just over a week away - yay!!
So, what else has been going on...
I've currently got a horrid cold - it's just yuck and it's the first cold I have had in absolutely ages. Fortunately it's the weekend, so I don't have to do too much running around - just the usual washing, caring for kids, etc.
Alannah has been having swimming lessons with school this past week. She has one more week of lessons to go, and she is loving it. I've been trying to go and help when I can, and it's amazing how her confidence is growing in the water.
Alannah did her first show and tell at school this week which was a huge milestone for us. Lana is very shy in groups, and hates being centre of attention, so this week when we got the notice home about her show and tell time, Roh and I had to really build her up and get her excited about it, and yay - it worked! And what did she take?? Her High School Musical Soundtracks...lol.
Yesterday Roh and I went and picked up a little portable electic stove top (thanks Dad!) which will be my cooking element for the next few months until our kitchen is put in. It's very cute! We also picked up a Yoghurt Maker Machine as it was half price and Roh has been talking about making his own yoghurt for quite a while. So I suppose we'll try that out once we have a kitchen..he he.
My big knitting project has begun. I've done about 50 rows of 254 stitches per row and I've got hundreds of rows to go but I'm happy with it so far. It's a throw rug and it's in this gorgeous autumny orange colour. Will share a photo when I've got more done.
Umm, that's about it I think. Still have some photos from SA to share and maybe a layout I've nearly finished too. Will be back.

Demolition Day 2

So Day 2. Here's a pic of my kitchen/hallway before...
The wall between living and kitchen came down...

Kitchen gutted...

Kitchen roof being removed...

Roof sheets gone. Rafters next...

Roof gone completely...

Window gone. Starting to remove the wall...

Kitchen gone completely...

Some interesting things we found while demolishing :
* bracing that actually wasn't bracing anything
* timber being used as supporting beams that were recycled with cut-outs in them, removing their supporting capability
* weatherboards which looked fine from the front, but were burnt charcoal on the back
* the name of previous owners "renovators" written on internal walls and timber - lol - we are not quite sure why they would want to put their name to what was our house...hmm
* second-hand insulation - but only in small sections of wall
* second-hand plasterboard
Ok, so lots of things that weren't so good. So happy it's all being fixed up now..or re-done :-P
Will be back with some photos from our trip to S.A. soon.
Have a great Friday!

Demolition Day 1

Now that we are living back at home, I am happy to share some of the fun stuff that has been happening with the house. Well, fun for me who watches, not so fun for Roh who has been working his butt off.

Ok, so the demolition started off on Saturday 28th February...

Here's our living area before demolition. Mmmm, mission brown exposed beams..lovely...lol.

Roh getting stuck into it..

One wall down...

Starting on the roof...

Removing the lovely huge window - what was my fav part of the house..

What was our living area..

Scattered Thoughts

So I've been pretty slack on the blogging front. Living a nomadic life is interesting, and my priorities are all over the place but there is an end in sight - yay! But with this nomadic life and everything else that is going on, I've had only scattered thoughts about blogging. So this will be my 'scattered thoughts' blog post...he he...

First up, a couple of layouts from my Passion for Fashion 2 entries, over at Scrap Boutique. This one was inspired by the 1900's, and had to use a Shakespeare quote..

This next one is inspired by 1970's disco era. The bam pop pp reminded me of the dance floor...

Love this wallpaper from Ferm Living. I'm thinking for the study main wall. Just have to wait for some walls first :-P
How cute is this mod flowers wall decal from etsy shop Michelle Christina?

And how can I resist this one with two Star Wars mad boys in my house - from etsy shop Bombgrafx

Ok, so a few other random things...

I'm trying my hand at knitting again. Have remembered how to cast on (woo hoo!) and have nearly finished a scarf for Alannah in a few shades of pink. So now I'll just have to remember how to cast off..lol..tricky. The scarf is just a warm up though - I've bought wool for a throw rug...yup, big project, but I love how cosy they are, so that's my next knitting exercise. It's apparently a beginner's pattern but we'll see.

Alannah finishes her first term of school this week. She has settled in well but is looking forward to a holiday too.

We are off to S.A next week for some quality time with Mum, Dad, Hayley, Caden and other family members. Should be great fun!

Have a layout in this month's Scrapbooking Memories, and have a few layouts in the next issue of Scrapbooking Memories too.

Roh and I are trying to finalise external colours for our place. We're getting a colorbond 'ironstone' roof which is pretty set but just the other two colours for the weatherboards & the window/door frames. I think we're nearly there. Will share when finalised :-)

Went to Ikea on Friday with my friend Jude. Was very restrained and only bought a few things. One thing I absolutely love is my new clock - it is huge! and so fantastic, I just had to get it. It's called 'Bravur' and has a diameter of 57cm. I know exactly what wall I want it on too..yay!

Ok, well I think that's about it for now. Lots of thoughts - not in any sensible order. Thanks for stopping by.

Stay safe xx
